Abstract

998,059. Mineral-mining machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. July 3, 1961 [April 6, 1960], No. 12189/60. Heading E1F. [Also in Division B8] In a mineral-ripping machine a cutter drum 26 is so mounted at the leading end of the machine that it can be swung in a vertical plane about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drum and adjacent one end of the drum. The drum is rotatably mounted in lugs projecting forward from a beam 24 extending radially of and supported in a bearing mount having a horizontal, longitudinally extending axis. The bearing is mounted on a carriage 11 longitudinally movable along roller tracks 10 on a selfadvancing base frame 2. Hydraulic jacks are the means for moving the carriage and for advancing the frame. A shaft and gear drive is taken through the arm to a sprocket at the outer end of the arm and thence by a cutter chain 28 to a sprocket at the outer end of the drum. The arm is swung by a driven endless chain 21 to which the arm is connected, the chain being guided by an arch structure 19.
