Abstract

997,936. Window and door hinges; stays. W. FRANK. Nov. 27, 1962 [Dec. 18, 1961], No. 44798/62. Heading E2F. The invention relates to a window or door which can pivot about a horizontal axis 5, Fig. 1 and alternatively about a vertical axis 4, the pivotal axis being pre-selected by a lever 2. Additional hinge means which also acts as a stay when the window pivots about the horizontal axis 5 comprises first and second stay arms 8, 14 respectively, each pivoted slidably at one end to the upper edge of the movable frame member 7 and both pivoted together at their other ends by a pin 63 bearing in a bell crank lever 12 which is pivotably connected at 11 to the fixed frame member 25 at or near its upper corner, such that the two arms 8, 14 pivot eccentrically about the vertical axis 11. The second arm 14 is firmly but detachably connected to one arm 74 of the bell crank lever 12 by means of two projections 65, 66 Fig. 8 (not shown) which may be in the form of dogs or bolts arranged in the longitudinal direction of the hinge arm 14 and mating in corresponding bores 64 in the arm 74 of the bell crank lever. The bell crank lever has one arm 61 pivotably connected to a pivot bearing 67 mounted at or near the upper corner of the fixed frame and a fork 62 engaging the pin or like 63 which connects the stay arms 8, 14 together, the bell crank lever 12 being sandwiched between the stay arms.
