Abstract
997,814. Rotary piston engines. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. May 16, 1962 [May 16, 1961], No. 18934/62. Heading F1F. In a rotary piston engine comprising a rotor R, Fig. 1, having N lobes of epitrochoidal configuration and a stator S having N+ 1 matching chambers, the sealing elements B, C, D, E, F between the rotor and stator are each carried by an oscillatable support mounted on the stator so that the sealing elements are continuously directed towards the instantaneous centre of rotation I of the rotor. In one embodiment, a cam 8, Fig. 2, mounted on the engine crankshaft 9 engages a roller 10 carried by a rod 12 formed with a rack 14 engageable with a toothed sector 151 fixed to an elongated support 1 carrying a pair of sealing elements 3, 4, so that as the cam rotates the sector 151 oscillates and with it the sealing elements 3, 4. In another embodiment a cam 17, Fig. 3, fast on the engine crankshaft acts on a spring-loaded rod 19 pivotably connected to a rod 21 fixed to the support 1. In a further embodiment, a crank arm fast on the crankshaft co-operates with a slot in one arm of a bell-crank lever. The other arm of the bellcrank lever being connected through a link to a rod similar to the rod 21. In a still further embodiment, a cam 35, Fig. 5, having a track 36 engaging a pin 37 carried by a pivoted lever 38 rotates at a lower speed than the crankshaft. The lever 38 is pivoted to one end of a link 40 which is pivotably connected to a lever 41 secured to the support 42 on which the sealing elements are mounted.
