Abstract

996,639. Door frames. AMERICAN FRAME CO. May 9, 1963, No. 18429/63. Heading E1J. The jambs and head member of a metal door frame each comprises a channel section 30 which embraces its adjacent end of the peripheral wall and is provided with two series of longitudinally spaced tabs 35, 36 formed integrally with the members by slitting the members with I-slits, the first series 35 being spaced inwardly from one edge of the flange 22 of the section 30 and each having a curled latching surface as shown, and the second series 36 of tabs are similarly formed with the latching surfaces 36 reversely folded to extend beyond the said one edge of the flange 22 and clinched to the flange, or trim member 17 of channel section having inturned flanges 13, 14, Fig. 4, being resiliently engaged about the curved latching surfaces 35, 36. Each end of the head member has a depending tab engaging the top end of the respective side member. The trim members are formed into a frame by means of corner brackets 45 Fig. 2 at the mitred joints and telescoping into the ends of the trim members 10 and each joint having a relieved inside corner to allow limited adjustment of the trim members in forming the mitre joint.
