Abstract
994,532. Cooling engines. ASTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL. April 8, 1963 [April11, 1962], No. 13906/63. Heading F1B. [Also in Division B7] An in-line engine 1 is placed on the rear driving axle of a vehicle, the axis of the engine coinciding with the axis of the vehicle and the engine being inclined to the left as viewed from the rear. On the left side of the cylinder head 5 is located the inlet manifold 10, the air cleaner, the carburettor 11 and exhaust manifold 20 and piping. The radiator 8 of the water cooling system and its associated fan 13 are located on the right side of the engine, the fan 13 being mounted on the crank case 14 and its axis being parallel to the axis of the engine and the radiator being inclined at 20 degrees to 70 degrees to the axis of the fan. The radiator which is mounted on the vehicle body is connected to the fan 13 by a flexible rubber hose 15 attached to an air duct 16 and to the engine 1 by flexible conduits 4 and 7, the conduit 4 leading to a water pump 3 A generator 17 is incorporated in the hub of the fan 13. The radiator which is vertically disposed has a filling cap 19, and may have an inclination as seen in plan opposite to that shown in Fig. 2. Hot air leaving the fan may be led to a discharge opening at the rear of the car body through ducting. The ignition distributor 10 is mounted on the rear cover of the engine and the sparking plugs 9 may be reached from above. The unit may be disposed beneath the floor of a vehicle.
