Abstract

989,916. Motor vehicle steering columns. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. April 10, 1964 [April 23, 1963], No. 15894/63. Heading B7H. The steering shaft 1 of a motor vehicle is journalled in a single bearing 2 carried by a steering column 3 having its lower end clamped in a rubber bush 4 compressed between domed plates 5, 6 secured to the footboard or floor structure 7 with an interposed sealing washer 11. The upper end of the column 3 is supported by a bracket (not shown) on the body structure. A flexible rubber coupling 8 connects the shaft 1 with a coupling 9 for attachment to a steering gear. A striker 10 is provided on the shaft 1 for actuating a direction indicator switch.
