Abstract

987,967. Polishing. W. RAUCH, and A. SCHNIZLER, [trading as METABOWERKE KOMM.-GES. CLOSS, RAUCH & SCHNIZLER]. March 23, 1964 [Sept. 5, 1963], No. 12104/64. Heading B3D. A polishing roll comprises a plurality of polishing discs 29 driven from one drive spindle 1 and arranged for pivotal movement individually and independently of one another, the pressure of application of the individual polishing discs against a workpiece to be polished being regulable. Each polishing disc is secured by a ring 30 to a mounting plate 24 having a conical projection secured by a bolt 28 to a conical recess in a pulley 17 mounted in bearings 16 in an outer portion 12 of an arm, the inner portion 4 of which is mounted on bearings 3 on the spindle 1, the two portions being relatively adjustable by a bolt and slot connection 13, 14 to vary the length of the arm. Pulleys 2 are disposed adjacent the portion 3 and are non-rotatably secured to the spindle and belts 19 transmit drive from the spindle to the discs. The portions 4 of the arms have sockets 3 for rods 36 carrying adjustable weights 38 by means of which the pressure of the discs acting on a workpiece is adjusted. The workpiece may be rotated about an axis perpendicular to the axes of the discs while passed through the machine.
