Abstract

986,863. Sliding seats. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. Oct. 10, 1963 [Nov. 14, 1962], No. 43060/62. Heading A4J. A slidable vehicle seat is supported by two slide channels 13 pivoted to the seat at a fixed distance apart by means of bolts 16, the channels 13 respectively sliding along two straight guide rails 11 fixed to the floor at an angle to each other and so arranged that the seat is given a slewing motion when the slide channels 13 slide along the guide rails 11. The seat is supported at the back by a single support 4, 5 arranged to rest on and slide freely over a flat base 29 bearing a plate 28 made of anti-friction material such as nylon. The seat comprises upper and lower transverse tubes 1, 8. Each of the bolts 16 has pivotally arranged on it a bracket 20, Fig. 5, having a sleeve 21 through which the sleeve 8 passes rotatably. The tube 1 is rotatable in sleeves 10 fixed to upturned ends 9 of the tube 8. The seat may be adjusted forwards and backwards by means of a latch lever 36, Fig. 3, provided with teeth 40 any one of which may be engaged by a pin 38 on an upturned end 9 of the tube 8. Slewing of the seat may be prevented by a latch pin 31.
