Abstract

985,837. Stacking boxes. EKCO PRODUCTS CO. Sept. 9, 1963 [May 7, 1963], No. 35557/63. Heading B8P. A box that can be both stacked and nested, and is made of rods, has stacking members 21, 22, 26 in the form of a frame pivoted along two sides of the base, in a first outwardly-extending position (Fig. 1), the members engage the rim of a subjacent box the end members 21 engaging recesses 28 in the rim of the lower box, and in a second almost vertical position the stacking members pass into the open top of the subjacent box to permit nesting. A rod 13 is positioned so that in the second position the members are not quite vertical whereby the frame will pivot outward (as shown in Fig. 7) when a box is placed on a flat surface S. Corner rods 17 of the box are bent at 27 to provide an abutment which rests on the rim of a lower box during nesting. In a modification in which the' members 26 are not provided the members 21 are bent downwardly at their outer ends.
