Abstract

N-substituted borazoles of the general formula <FORM:0984907/C2/1> wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having up to 18 carbon atoms, a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, an aromatic hydrocarbon radical, a substituted aromatic hydrocarbon radical or an aralkyl hydrocarbon radical are made by reacting a borohydride and an addition compound of a primary amine and a boron halide of the general formula RNH2.BX3, where X is F, Cl, Br or I, under anhydrous conditions whereby two mols. of hydrogen are split off per mol. of amine. The reaction may take place in an inert liquid medium in a protecting gas atmosphere. The reaction takes place at a temperature above the decomposition temperature of the addition compound and below that of the borazole. The process may also be carried out by reacting borohydrides with primary amines and boron trihalides or their addition compounds in tetrahydrofuran, the amine-boron halide compounds being formed in situ. The reaction temperature is between 40 DEG C. and the boiling point of the solvent (65-70 DEG C.). Examples describe the preparation of N,N1,N11-tri (n-propyl), N,N1,N11-triphenyl, and N,N1,N11 - tribenzyl - B,B1,B11-trihydrogen borazole. Specification 818,727 also is referred to.
