A photographic silver halide film comprises a transparent polyester base containing finelydivided light-absorbing or light-reflecting particles to provide an additional diffuse optical density in the thickness of the base of from 0.01 to 0. 05. The base may be of polyethylene terephthalate and may contain particles of carbon black, barium sulphate or titanium dioxide. Specifications 596,688, 610,137, 718,422, 786,176 and 788,127 are referred to.
