Abstract

The invention relates to the co-polymerization of p-isopropenylphenyl esters. p-isopropenylphenyl esters are obtained by the reaction of p-isopropenylphenol with a wide variety of acid chlorides and anhydrides. The polymerization is untreated by heat, irradiation or the usual radical forming polymerization catalysts. Bulk, solution, dispersion or emulsion polymerization may be used. The p-isopropenylphenyl esters may be co-polymerized with a wide variety of ethylenically unsaturated compounds the most important being vinyl compounds e.g. styrene, acrylic and methacrylic acid derivatives, maleic or fumaric acid derivatives and unsaturated polyesters containing maleic or fumaric acid residues. Strengthening agents, filling agents, dyes, pigments and plasticizers may also be added.
