Abstract
979,955. Evaporating liquids. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. April 17, 1963 .[April 18, 1962], No. 15123/63. Heading B1B. Liquid is fed under pressure on to the upper end of a rotating roller 4 arranged in an upright position in a chamber 26, and the liquid is distributed as a film on the roller, and repeatedly mixed as it moves down the roller, by resiliently-mounted blades 5 which form longitudinally-extending, wedge-shaped gaps 8 with the roller. The liquid is supplied to the apparatus through pipe 1 and is conveyed by worm 2 to annular gap 3 through which the liquid flows on to the roller. The roller is provided with a heating-element 22 in cavity 21. The vapours, evolved from the liquid, are removed by vacuum pipe 25. Alternatively the vapours are condensed on the inner surface of chamber 26, and the condensate is withdrawn through pipe 28. The unevaporated liquid is discharged through pipe 17 by means of worm 16. The blades 5 are pivoted at the top and bottom on spindles 11. The width of the wedge-shaped gaps 8 may be adjusted as desired, according to the viscosity of the liquid, by means of springs 12. The blades are preferably provided with grooves directly obliquely to the axis of the roller. Worm 16 conveys liquid at a greater rate than worm 2, so that there is a stable regulation of the liquid-level 20 in the discharge zone.
