Abstract
1,211,139. Evaporators, film type; gas/liquid reaction apparatus. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 25 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan, 1967], No. 3876/68. Headings B1B and B1F. A film evaporator or gas/liquid reactor comprises a frusto-conical jacket 1 having a vertical axis and tapering downwards, a liquidinlet 7 at the upper end and a liquid-outlet 8 at the lower end, and rotary blades 2 which distribute the liquid in the form of a film on the inner wall of the jacket, the arrangement being such that the thickness of the film is non-uniform along the inner wall. As shown, the gap 21 between the blades edges and the inner wall increases in width towards the outlet, so that the liquid remains in the lower region of the apparatus for a longer period. In an alternative construction, the gap decreases in width towards the outlet. The inner wall of the conical jacket and/or the blades edges may be provided with groove-like recesses. In the case of a film evaporator, vapours flow out through pipe 9 which may be connected to a condenser and a vacuum pump. In the case of a gas/liquid reactor, a gaseous reactant is introduced through pipe 9. The jacket 1 may be externally heated or cooled. It is stated that the blades may be replaced by a rotary solid cone or a rotary perforated hollow cone.
