Abstract

978,980. Piston packing. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938) Ltd. Dec. 20, 1963 [Sept. 23, 1963], No. 37299/63. Heading F2T. A piston-and-ring assembly comprises a split oil scraper ring which has a body 3 with an annular channel 4 in one end face and is mounted on the piston with the channel opening downwardly and the body 3 disposed against the bottom face 7 of the piston skirt. An extension 6 of the body has a flange 8 that engages a groove 9 in the piston skirt and the ring is urged outwardly by a spring 15. A further scraper ring 14 may be mounted near the piston crown. In a modification. Fig. 3 (not shown), the body 3 is housed in a recess in the skirt and has a radial flange engaging a groove in the skirt.
