Abstract
978,648. Lapping gear wheels. W. FERD. KLINGELNBERG SOHNE G.m.b.H. March 7, 1963 [March 8, 1962], No. 9118/63. Heading B3D. A machine for lapping gear-wheels 4, 5, Fig. 2, such as spiral bevel gear-wheels, comprises a spindle 2 for one of the gears mounted concentrically in a sleeve 21, Fig. 3, which, in turn, is mounted eccentrically in a second sleeve 24 mounted rotatably and longitudinally displaceably in a headstock 9, the two sleeves being driven for swinging movement about their axes and the outer sleeve being driven in addition for reciprocation by cam discs 50, Fig. 4, through adjustable intermediate members 42. The gears are mounted in spindles 2, 3, Fig. 2, in housings 9, 10 adjustable relative to each other along guides 11, 12 by hand wheels 13, 14. Spindle 3 is eccentrically mounted in a drum 17 which is rotatable to adjust the axis of the gear 5 above or below that of the gear 4. Spindle 2 is mounted by bearings 19, 20, Fig. 3, in the sleeve 21 which is mounted by bearings 22, 23 in the second sleeve 24 supported by bearings 25, 26 for rotation and axial movement in the housing 9. A threaded bush 27 is rotatably mounted on the sleeve 24 and axially located between a bearing 28 and an abutment surface on the sleeve 24, the bush engaging a threaded ring 30 releasably secured to the housing 9. Projections 34, 56, 57 are secured to the bush 27, sleeve 21 and sleeve 24, respectively, each projection having a roller 36 engaged by a roller 53, Fig. 4, on the rod 54 of a hydraulic loading device 55. Each projection is also adjustably connected by a push-rod 38 to a lever 42 rockable about a pivot 41 and having a follower 48. Each follower cooperates with a separate pair of cams 50a, 50b, 51a, 51b, 52a, 52b, Fig. 5. The cams and bushes therebetween are slotted so as to be easily replaceable on a shaft 49 which is reciprocable by a piston-and-cylinder device 61 from a position shown wherein one of each pair of cams is aligned with its respective follower 48 and a switch 68 is actuated, to a position wherein the other of each pair of cams is aligned with its follower and a switch 69 is actuated. The movement of the cams relative to the follower is effected in a zero position of the cams and shaft 49, in which position a bar 62 engaged in slots in the cams is aligned with the follower; rotation of the shaft 49 and cams is only effective when the device 61 has moved the shaft to one or other of the positions actuating the switches 68, 69, the shaft then being rotated once by a motor 64 with one cam of each pair aligned with its follower until the bar is again aligned with the followers whereupon the shaft is moved axially to its other position so that the other cam of each pair is aligned with its follower. The spindle is rotated about a centre O 2 , Fig. 4, by a variable speed motor 31 and the sleeves, which have eccentricities e 1 , e 2 , are rocked about their zero positions O 21 , O 24 , and the sleeve 24 reciprocated, by one of the cams of each pair during lapping of the right flanks of the teeth and by the other cams of each pair during lapping of the left flanks to maintain the convexity of the flanks produced during forming of the teeth. Axial play between the threaded bush 27, Fig. 3, and ring 30 is eliminated by a plurality of hydraulic devices 76 acting on a shoulder 78 on the sleeve 24 against the action of springs 79. When the supply is disconnected from the devices 76, the springs press the gears together without play and any errors in the gears can be noted when the spindle 2 is slowly rotated by axial movement of the spindle moving a pointer. The bush 27 is secured in the housing 9 by a clamp ring 30 which is opened out during running of the machine by a spring-urged wedge to adhere firmly to the housing. The wedge can be moved by a fluid pressure-operated piston to release the bush. The shape of the cams may be such that the resultant of the axial movement and the horizontal movement about the centre O 2 is along the common pitch cone generatrix of the gears. A lapping liquid is supplied to the point of engagement between the gears. Specification 817,491 is referred to.
