978,389. Afocal lenses. AGFA A.G. Oct. 11, 1962 [Oct. 18, 1961], No. 38632/62. Heading G2J. The afocal lens has a telescopic power less than 0. 75 and an axial length less than 1.15 times the focal length of the main lens with which it is to be used and comprises a front member of three lens elements and a rear member formed by a meniscus cemented component convex to the rear. The front element and the front member is a negative meniscus convex to the front. The second element is negative and has its rear surface more curved than its front surface, and the third elemen is biconvex with the front surface of deeper curva ture. This front member is of such small power that the rates of the axial length of the system to the back focal length is within the range -0.15 to 0. 75. The refractive index of the front element exceeds that of the second element by at least 0. 125 and the third element has a refractive index not more than 1. 60. Optical data are given for two examples of the lens shown.
