Abstract

977,818. Valves. RAINBOW VALVE CO. Ltd. March 1, 1963 [March 26, 1962], No. 11476/62. Heading F2V. A device for controlling flow through a flexible tube 5 comprises a housing 1 with a surface 6 constituting an anvil against which the tube is compressed by a preloaded spring 11 when a T-shaped lever 8, pivoted at 9, is deflected in either direction from the neutral position shown. The lever is deflected by variations of load applied to an adjustable rider 12 in opposition to a counterbalancing spring 13, and its movement is limited by the ends of a slot 10 in the housing. The force applied against the tube 5 is limited by the degree of preloading of the spring 11. In a modification, the tube is compressed by arms pivoted to the arms 7 of the T-shaped lever and acted upon by preloaded coil springs. In other modifications, the arms 7 of the lever have curved portions which engage the tube 5 directly and the preloaded spring, which may be a leaf or looped element or a coil spring acting through a bar, is situated at the other side of the tube in place of the fixed anvil 6.
