Abstract

Ortho-chlorophenyl-glyceryl-(1)-ether is prepared by reacting ortho-chlorophenil and a -glycerol monochlorhydrin together. Similarly 1:6-dibromo-naphthyl-(2)-glyceryl-(1)-ether; 5:8-dichloro-naphthyl-(1)-glyceryl-(1)-ether; 2:4:5-trichlorophenyl-glyceryl-(1)-ether and pentachlorophenyl-glyceryl-(1)-ether are prepared from a -glycerol monochorhydrin and the appropriate phenol. The compounds are used as deodorants (see Division A5).ALSO:A deodorizing preparation comprises a glyceryl-(1)-ether of a halogeno-hydroxyaryl compound in admixture with a carrier, the term "halogeno" representing a halogen atom or the trifluoromethyl group. The composition may be in the form of a cosmetic cream, lotion, aerosol spray, solid stick or powder. Solutions or suspensions of the active deodorant can be used to impregnate or spray shoes, soles, swabs, cotton wool, stockings and other textiles. The halogeno-hydroxy aryl compounds may contain further substituents, e.g. hydroxyl, alkoxy, alkyl, nitro or amino groups. Typical halogeno-hydroxy aryl compounds are o-chloro phenol, 1,6-dibromononaphthol-(2), 2,4,6-tribromophenol and pentachlorophenol.
