Abstract

977,177. Fluorescent discharge lamp fittings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 4, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], No. 44451/62. Heading F4R. [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] A mounting for a fluorescent discharge lamp has a support spine in which is embedded in insulated manner resistance wire forming a ballast for a lamp fitted in the mounting. The resistance wire preferably has a heat-resistant covering, e.g. of glass fibre tape and is embedded in a resin-sand mix. In the form shown, the spine 1 has a channel containing the resin sand mix 22 in which the resistance spine 20 is embedded. A bracket 6 fixed at one end of the spine 1 carries a bi-pin lamp-holder 7 and also supports a starter switch 10 or an electrode heating transformer. A bracket 11 is hinged at the opposite end of the spine 1 and carries a bi-pin lamp-holder 12 and a bayonet connector for connection to the mains supply. The lampholders and auxiliary gear are covered by .caps 4, 5. A reflector (not shown), may be mounted on the spine, the surface of the reflector facing away from the lamp being blackened to act as a heat dissipating surface. The fitting is supported by flexible brackets 16, 17 engaging in. slots in the caps 4, 5.
