Abstract

976,870. Aerials. MARCONI CO. Ltd. Oct. 23, 1962 [May 1, 1962], No. 16615/62. Heading H4A. In a dipole aerial array comprising a plurality of dipole elements (half dipoles) connected to and spaced along a straight two-conductor balanced feeder, the width dimension of each element (in the direction of the feeder) is in the range <SP>1</SP>/ 3 rd to <SP>4</SP>/ 3 rds the length thereof. As described, a logarithmic array comprises fourteen such dipole elements D1 to D14, Fig. 1, the odd numbered ones of which are connected to one conductor F1, and the even numbered ones to the other conductor F2, of a balanced two-conductor feeder. Each dipole half is formed by an approximately rectangular piece of wire and arranged so that the odd and even numbered series each form a tapered zig-zag symmetrically about its respective feeder conductor, each dipole in the array being formed of one half dipole from each of the two series. Support may be provided by insulated stringers S and the ends of the dipole may lie in a central plane as in Fig. 5-in which case each dipole half is tapered. Specification 884,889 is referred to.
