960,565. Seals. V. O. ISAKOV, and A. F. LOOZKOV. Jan. 29, 1963, No. 3676/63. Heading F2B. Sealing means for the shaft 2 of a magnetic clutch comprises a labyrinth seal which is formed between a rotatable ring 3 and a non- rotatable ring 4 and is surrounded by a magnetized ring 5 itself surrounded by a non- magnetic ring 6. The rings 3 and 4 are of ferromagnetic material, the former ring being carried in a ferromagnetic cap 1 secured to the shaft 2 and the latter being fixed in a housing 7 of non-magnetic material. The passage of magnetic powder particles 8 through the gap 9 between the ring 5 and cap 1 is restrained by the effect of the magnetic field due to the ring 5, which field is prevented from by-passing the gap 9 by the ring 6.
