[Also in Division F2] An hydraulic pressure intensifier comprises a small piston 1 slidable in a cylinder 2 and connected to a large piston 8 slidable in a cylinder 9 so that variable low pressure liquid supplied through a passage 10 acts upon the piston 8 to provide a proportional high pressure liquid to supply e.g. a braking system connected at 3 to the cylinder 2, the cylinders 2, 9 being both vented to atmosphere when the low pressure supply is withdrawn through respectively a valve 4 in the piston 1 opened by a rod 5 and through a bleed hole 17 in the piston 8. A further piston 13 coaxially connected with the pistons 1 and 8 is at all times urged in a direction which tends to lower the pressure in the small cylinder 2 by a continuously maintained low pressure liquid supplied to a pressure chamber 12 through a passage 11. Liquid released from the cylinder 2 by the opening of the valve 4 passes through a passage 6 in the piston 1 into a reservoir 7. Liquid which seeps past the pistons 8, 13 and through the bleed hole 17 is drained to a sump, not shown, of the low pressure supply. A plunger, Fig. 3 not shown, having a valve may be inserted in the vertical bore 21 of the reservoir 7 and is manually reciprocated in order to pump out air contaminated liquid through a normally closed hole in the high pressure system.
