969,208. Typewriters. M. GRUNDIG, [trading as GRUNDIG ELEKTRO-MECHANISCHE VERSUCHSANSTALT]. Nov. 9, 1960 [Jan. 12, 1960], No. 38481/60. Heading B6F. Power-roller type-actions.-A type-lever mechanism comprises a key-lever 1, a release pawl 5 and a friction shoe 15 pivotally mounted on an intermediate lever 14 and capable of single or continuous type action. The release pawl 5 has three contact surfaces, the first, surface 9, contacts an adjustably mounted stop 9 when the key is in unoperated position, the second, surface 10, brings the friction shoe 15 into engagement with its driving roller 26 and, the third, surface 11, serves as a stop for the intermediate lever 14 by which the pawl 5 is displaced off a contact bar 20. When the keylever is depressed a pin 4 causes the pawl 5 to contact the bar 20 and surface 10 to initiate action by tilting the shoe 15. At the end of the action 12 is determined by the adjustable eccentric 25 engaging the end 12 of the friction shoe lever. The nose 22 of the intermediate lever 14 at this time moves the pawl 5 so the lug 19 slides over the bar 20. In this position no continuous actions can take place. For continuous action the key-lever is depressed deeper, and although the lug 19 is still behind the bar 20 the deeper depression causes the bent end 12 of friction shoe lever to strike against the depressed contact surface 10 so that the shoe 15 immediately lies again on the power-roller 26 to effect a repeat action. Adjustable impact, letter-by-letter.-Adjustment of the eccentric 25 determines the knockoff time of the shoe 15 so each type-lever has a required impact. Touch control.-This is controlled by vertical adjustment of either or both upper stop 8 and control bar 20 which are attached to the typewriter framework by slotted angle pieces. Further the lugs 3 may be adjusted by means of a tool. Key construction.-The key-levers 1 may be constructed so one pattern will suit all rows: a number of separate pivot holes 4 is provided, one for each row of keys.
