Abstract
968,814. Two-part couplings. M. HARTING, [trading as WILHELM HARTING WERK FUR ELEKTROTECHNIK UND MECHANIK]. May 24, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 20753/63. Heading H2E. A contact for the interconnection of cables, consists of a strip of resilient material (e.g. rolled bronze) having one edge rolled back over the major face to form a hollow socket 2 (Fig. 6), leaving an axial slit between edge 3 and the major face, and an offset flat portion 4 between the socket 2 and the opposite edge so that two such contacts when axially aligned will slidaby interfit the portion 4 or 4<SP>1</SP> of the one entering the socket slit of the other and being resiliently gripped therein. This is allowed by slots 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and the off-setting of the blade portions 4, 4<SP>1</SP> at 6, 6<SP>1</SP>. Locking elements are provided on each contact in the form of abutments 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and holes 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. Clamping means 9, 91 for cable ends, or soldering tags 10 (Fig. 3, not shown), are provided at the ends of the contacts. In another embodiment (Figs. 8 and 9) interfitting contacts 11, 11<SP>1</SP> each having a bent portion 15, 15<SP>1</SP> and a blade 16, 16<SP>1</SP> are secured to a bevelled copper support 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, which may have its other end bent. A multiple contact arrangement may be formed by securing several such members in a common housing. In a further embodiment (Fig. 15), one of the coupling contacts is a mirror image of the other. The retainer blade 26 may be bent (Fig. 14, not shown) to form an incomplete circle which fits into the complementary socket 25. The entry apertures to the sockets may be flared.
