Abstract
967,959. Retractive switches; mechanical switches without quick action; switches held set and freed mechanically. J. C. RIDOUT, and W. F. HILL. July 2, 1963 [April 4, 1962], No. 12853/62. Heading H2B. [Also in Divisions G4 and H3] A switch for a vehicle turn indicator system giving two indications on either side of a vehicle (see Division G4) comprises a lever arm 1 rotatable about an axis 15 and also about axis 18. Movement about the axis 15 operates a linkage to rotate shaft 5 moving the contacts of a first switch mounted on a disc 8 to connect either the left hand or right hand indicator lamps to the flasher. Secured to shaft 5 is a member 11 which retains the switch in its operated position by means of a spring-pressed roller 12. Return movement to the deenergized position is assisted by action of roller 12 on cam surface 13. Movement of lever 1 to the right about pivot 18 closes a second switch by forcing member 16 into engagement with spring contact 14 (Fig. 3). This spring contact 14 is not capable of holding member 16 in the switch closed position so that this second switch cannot be left closed when the lever arm 1 is in the central position for the first switch. In order to lock this second switch the lever arm must first be rotated about axis 15 to operate the first switch. In either of the operated positions of this first switch disc 11 is rotated to bring one of the abutments 20 under the end of spring contact 14 so that member 16 is held against the action of return spring 17 until member 11 moves to the off position.
