966,056. Vehicle opening roofs; covers for vehicles. STAHLWERKE BRUNINGHAUS G.m.b.H. July 27, 1962 [Aug. 1, 1961], No. 28990/62. Headings B7J and B7L. [Also in Division E2] A railway vehicle roof is divided longitudinally into openable halves 8, 9, Fig. 1, pivoted respectively at 2, 3 on reinforcing members 16, 17 of an end wall 1 and interconnected by toothed sectors 12, 13, the roof halves 8, 9 being movable to the open and closed positions by a control apparatus comprising an hydraulic piston and cylinder device 28 universally pivoted to the end wall 1 as described with reference to Fig. 7 (not shown), the pistonrod 29 of the device 28 being pivoted at 30 to one corner of a triangular rocker 31, the second corner of which is pivoted at 33 to the end wall 1 via a bracket 37, and the third corner of which is pivoted at 38 to one end of a cranked member 39 secured at its other end to a screw adjuster 42, 43, 44 pivoted at 41 to the roof half 8, the arrangement being such that the line joining the pivots 38, 41 passes through " dead-centre " with respect to the axis of the pivot 33 when the roof is closed. A similar control apparatus may be provided on the other end wall and a device 28 connected between the roof half 9 and that end wall so that that device 28 is diagonally disposed with respect to the device 28 connected to the roof half 8 and end wall 1.
