Abstract
964,835. Valves. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD. June 20, 1963 [June 20, 1962], No. 23750/62. Heading F2V. A safety valve comprises a casing 1 having an inlet 5, an outlet 7, and a valve closure 11 in the housing which is held from a seat at the outlet by a ring 9. The ring 9 collapses when the valve reaches a certain temperature thus allowing the closure to seat under gravity and a spring 12. A filter 6 is provided at the inlet and is secured to the ring 9. The ring 9 is supported by an apertured plate 4. The ring may be made of an alloy consisting of two parts lead, three parts tin and one part bismuth by weight so that the ring melts at approximately 160‹ C. The closure 11 is preferably made of ceramic material so as to prevent loss of heat from the ring 9 and to insulate the spring 12 from the ring. The ring may also be made of polyethylene or other thermo-softening plastic materials.
