In a gas valve assembly the operating members 12-14 of an ignition safety device, a switch-off device, and a gas flow control valve contained in a casing 10, extend through a cover plate 11, and a piezo-electric igniter mechanism 15 is secured by a clip 16 to the exterior of the casing 10 and has an operating button 152 which extends through the cover 11, the operating members 12-14 and the operating button 152 being colinear. The igniter mechanism may be secured to the gas inlet or outlet side of the casing 10.
