[Also in Division G1] A warning device comprises a target 5 exposed to wind force and held in an initial position by a restoring force against which it can be displaced by a wind force of a given strength into a second position where means for initiating a warning signal are operated. The target 5 has three arrays of radial vanes and is mounted on an arm 3 as in Fig. 1. The arm passes through an opening protected by a gaiter 4 into a casing 2 where its end is connected to a disc 10 of which the periphery is held down on a ring 11 by a spring 14. A pin 11A prevents rotation. The bottom of the arm 3 holds depressed the plunger 27 of a microswitch 25 which connects to a terminal block 28 near to a glanded cable-entry 30. A counterweight 15 immersed in a viscous liquid 20 is attached to the disc 10 by way of members 16, 17, 18 which pass through a flexible, waterproof diaphragm 22. Tilting the disc 10 against the force of the spring 14 by the arm 3 releases the plunger 27 to cause the microswitch 25 to operate an alarm circuit which, preferably, contains a holding circuit to maintain the alarm after the switch is cut off. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates an alternative construction which has a ball on the arm in place of the vanes 8 and in which the bottom of the arm is connected by a spring to a spring- loaded, pivoted arm which operates the plunger of the microswitch.
