958,887. Moderator structure. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. May 10, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 18630/63. Drawings to Specification. Heading G6C. A nuclear reactor moderator is formed of columns 1 of graphite bricks 2 connected by longitudinal keys 3 and separated by clearances 5. Each set of seven columns is supported on a hexagonal tile 6 which is spaced from the base of the reactor vessel by three pillars, 7. The tiles are given a lateral displacement to allow for overhang of the columns and the centre column of the group supported by the tile is spiggotted to the tile. Each pillar, 7 is adjustable in height to permit levelling of the tile and is insulated against heat from the moderator. The base of each pillar rests in an aperture of a support plate mounted on the base of the reactor vessel.
