852,839. Nuclear reactors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and SIMON-CARVES Ltd. Nov. 28, 1958 [Dec. 13, 1957], No. 38837/57. Class 39(4). [Also in Group X] In a nuclear reactor, the graphite core is carried on a horizontal platform 7, supported upon vertical columns 9 which rest on a net 8 beneath the platform. The columns 9 are cruciform and the net 8, depends from the edges of platform 7. The net is formed of steel sections 14 welded to the columns to intersect at right angles. Platform 7 is formed of two grills 15, 16 constructed of intersecting steel members 18, 17 welded to the rod extensoin 13, of columns 9. The peripheral flange 19 surrounds the upper surface of 7 and the core rests upon the locating screws 20. The structure rests upon the circular skirt 10 and the weight is transferred through the spherical pressure vessel 3 to an outer skirt 11, resting on a foundation 12. In an alternative form, not shown, the platform is suspended beneath a support, outside the pressure vessel. Specification 852,840 is referred to.
