957, 467. Automatic control systems for corrosion protection. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES Inc. Feb. 27, 1961 [Feb. 29, 1960; Jan. 26, 1961], No. 7183/61. Heading G3R. A cathodic protection system for small craft comprises an anode 14 placed in the vicinity of the hull 18, the anode 14 being fed from a direct current source 16 over a transistor 25 which is controlled from an oscillator comprising transistors 23, 24 to feed the anode 14 with a succession of pulses, the pulse frequency of the oscillator being in turn controlled by a sensing half-cell 12, so that, should the level of protection depart from the desired amount which is initially set by means of a potentiometer 34 and a diode 36, the half-cell 12 will cause the frequency of the oscillator 23, 24 to vary to alter the mark/space ratio of the pulses fed to the anode to restore the protection to the desired value. The diode 36 may be a Zener diode. In a further embodiment a Schmidt trigger circuit is incorporated.
