Abstract

957,124. Drum winders; stop motions, JOSEPH STUBBS Ltd. April 18, 1963 [Jan. 26,1962], No. 2993/62. Headings DID and D1J. A yarn drum-winding machine is provided with hydraulic means which, in the event of breakage or exhaustion of the yarn, operate to lift the package out of engagement with the driving drum. Yarn 27 is wound on to a conical package 26 which is supported by an H-shaped winding heat 12 and is driven by frictional contact with a drum 16 provided with helical thread-guiding grooves. The winding head 12 is slidablc on pillars 22 and is connected to a piston rod 19 of a hydraulic ram arrangement mounted within a closed casing 11 of the machine. Adjoining the base of the cylinder 17 of the hydraulic ram is a valve body 33 having a valve member 34 adapted to control the inlet to the cylinder of pressurised fluid from conduits 42, 43 and the exhaust of fluid from the cylinder to the casing 11 and via the casing to drain conduits 39, 40. A rod 45 pivotally connected to an extension of the valve member 34 is continuously oscillated during winding by means of a rotating cam 48; when yarn breakage occurs a drop wire 52 is released to the position shown dotted and simultaneously moves an L-shaped lever 50, 54 into the path of the rod 45 providing it with a new fulcrum point, thereby effecting movement of the valve member 34 into a position in which the cylinder 17 is pressurised. Thus the winding head is lifted to disconnect the package from the driving drum. A detent 56 is provided to hold the valve member 34 in this raised position until by manual rotation of the detent the valve and lever 50 are reset. The construction of the detent lever may be modified as in Fig. 7 (not shown). In a further modification (Figs. 8 and 9 not shown) the winding head is pivotally mounted.
