To seal off and stabilize the rock walls of underground working there is sprayed on to the walls an aqueous dispersion of a synthetic resin polymer or co-polymer, e.g. polyvinylidene chloride or polyvinyl chloride, whose particles have a strong polarity and where to form an impermeable coating on the walls when the aqueous phase of the dispersion evaporates.
