954,656. Moulding reinforced conveyer belts. FRANZ CLOUTH RHEINISCHE GUMMIWARENFABRIK A.G. Nov. 8, 1960 [April 25, 1960], No. 38284/60. Heading B5A. In a process for making a conveyer belt reinforced with steel cords, lengths of steel cords are first unwound and then tensioned individually in a parallel array, and united in the array by vulcanizing rubber thereon while they are tensioned. The steel cords are unwound from drums 1 and guided over a grooved roller 3 through a tensioning clamp 4, two sets of tensioning rollers 5a, 5b, 5c, grooved roller 6, clamp 7, and grooved roller 8, to receive a rubber sheet before passing through a pre-forming and vulcanizing presses 10, 11, respectively, and between tensioning rollers 12 and a clamp 13 to a receiving drum 14. The cords are tensioned initially by closing clamp 4, and moving the drum 14, clamp 13, and tensioning rollers away from the clamp 4. The stresses in the cords are then equalized by adjustment of the tensioning rollers 5a, 5b, 5c. The clamp 7 is then closed and the presses 10, 11 moved towards it to perform the moulding and vulcanization operations.
