Abstract

954,327. Joint-making packing. McCORD CORPORATION. May 14, 1962, No. 18480/62. Heading F2B. In a cylinder head gasket made of sheet metal and comprising a flat body portion 10, each cylinder opening 12 is surrounded by a continuous corrugation 20 and the free edge portions 22 of the metal defining the openings is folded back to overlap the corrugations as shown in Fig. 2. The gasket is also corrugated as at 16, adjacent its outer periphery and around the oil or water passages or bolt holes 14. The combined thickness of the corrugations 20 and portions 22 is greater than that of the corrugations 16. The gasket is preferably of cold rolled or stainless steel and is preferably coated with a protective covering such as a baked plastic coating.
