Abstract

942,163. Spring boards. CONTEMPORARY INDUSTRIES (ENGINEERING) Ltd. June 15, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 21640/61. Heading A6M. An adjustable spring-board support comprises a fulcrum roller 42 rotatably mounted on a spindle 9 having at its ends wheels 10, 11 which run on guides 14, 15, a yoke 26-28 being supported on bushes 20, 21 on the spindle and having attached to it a steady bar 31 slidable in bearing 32. The fulcrum is moved along the guides by means of a foot-operated wheel 44 carried by the spindle 9. The wheels 10, 11 are enclosed in housings 46, 47 carried by the spindle and have a concave profile to correspond to the tubular guides 14, 15. The bar 31 carries stops 35, 36 to limit its axial movement. In a modification the guides are V- shaped in cross-section and the wheels are chamfered to form frusto-conical surfaces engageable with the guides. In a further modification, each guide is formed of a channel member with its open side facing inwardly, the wheels in this case being tapered to engage the sloping inner surface of the guide. The guides may be made of stainless steel or other non-corrodible metal and may be lined with non-metallic material. The bearing bushes for the fulcrum roller may be of nylon or other plastics material.
