Abstract

941,808. Fastener tapes. STEELS & BUSKS Ltd. May 25, 1962 [May 31, 1961], No. 19597/61. Heading A3V. [Also in Division B5] Fastener tapes comprising hooks or eyes 3, 4 sewn to tapes 5, 7 and mounted on a base fabric 9 carrying cushioning means to pad each row of hooks or eyes, are attached to elastic webs 1 by covering the stitching at the rear of the tape with the elastic web and bonding with an adhesive. The adhesive may be thermosetting plastic cured by heat and pressure after joining or a thermoplastic such as rubber, polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride which may be applied in the form of a strip 10 with flanges 11 overlapping the edges of the eye tape to prevent fraying. Direct or dielectric heating is used to soften the thermoplastic and pressure used to consolidate the bonding.
