Abstract

949,927. Motor vehicle driving gear. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. Dec. 31, 1962 [Dec. 29, 1961], No. 49111/62. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F2] A centrifugally controlled expanding pulley gearing is rendered inoperative and positively bridged when the highest ratio is reached. An engine driving shaft 2 is clutched by a sliding sleeve 12 to the driving member 9 of a centrifugal clutch. The clutch driven member 10 is rigid with one flange 3 of an expanding pulley, the axial position of the other flange 4 being controlled by centrifugal balls 5. A V-belt 6 transmits drive from the pulley 3, 4 to a rigid pulley 20 on a shaft 24 carrying a spring pulley 21, 22, the shaft 24 being movable transversely to its axis under a spring 26 opposed by engine intake suction in a cylinder 28, a belt 17 connects the pulley 21, 22 to a rigid pulley 16 coupled through a freewheel 29 with a shaft 15 coaxial with shaft 2 and having a gear 14 driving a gear 18 on the rear axle 19 of a motor vehicle. An idler 35 drives a governor having centrifugal balls 39 which move a conical member 40 axially against a spring 41 to move a lever 44 actuating the clutch sleeve 12 to couple the shaft 2 to the gear 14 when the speed slightly is higher than the maximum ratio of the transmission. The ratio of the springs 26, 41 and spring 54 of a ball detent are such that direct drive can only be achieved by a reduction in depression in the cylinder 28.
