Abstract

946,701. Bearings. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 7, 1961 [April 12, 1960], No. 12679/61. Heading F2A. In a magnetic bearing having a first group of permanent magnetic rings 8 on a shaft 1 surrounded by a second group of permanent magnetic rings 7 held by a housing 6, the groups are spaced apart by repulsion and the ratio between an axial thickness L of each ring and the mean width of the air gap C has a value which lies between 0.6: 1 and 6: 1. The shaft 1 is limited axially by thrust bearings 4, 5. In a modification a hub 9, Fig. 2, is intermediate the shaft and the rings 8, and the thrust bearings 4, 5 are replaced by an electromagnet 10 and an armature 11.
