Abstract

932,366. Surgical forceps. M. J. CHEVALIER. April 5, 1961 [May 4, 1960], No. 12179/61. Class 81 (2). The gripping surfaces of the jaws of surgical forceps are given a limited universal movement to facilitate gripping surfaces which are not parallel or flat. The end of each arm 1 is turned inward and bifurcated and the resultant projections are drilled to receive a pivot pin 6, lying parallel to the plane of the forceps. The pin carries an intermediate piece 2 which supports a bolt 4 to which the jaw member 3 is pivoted, the bolt lying in a plane perpendicular to that of the pin 6. Each jaw member has three projecting teeth 3b to facilitate gripping curved surfaces. The amount of play in the connection of each jaw to its arm is limited so that if necessary a small object can be gripped between one tooth of each jaw.
