Abstract

932,284. Liquid fuel furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. May 17, 1962 [May 17,1961], No. 18977/62. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XIII] The combustion chamber 22 of a marine steam boiler (see Group XIII) has a central cylindrical portion which is provided with a convergentdivergent combustion air inlet port 31 with a centrally disposed fuel-oil burner 48. Combustion air flows to the port 31 through an annular or jacket air space 28 surrounding the combustion chamber 22 and gas passes 24, 26 being preheated therein, and then through an air register 60. A series of pivoted air doors in the air register 60 serve to control the flow of combustion air and to impart a swirl thereto. The combus tion gas outlet 29 leading to the gas passes 24, 26 is disposed opposite the burner 48.
