Abstract

932,162. Rings. J. NEWMAN. Nov. 6, 1959 [Dec. 12, 1958; March 26, 1959], Nos. 40159/58 and 10632/59. Class 43. [Also in Group XXV] A finger ring comprises three arcuate sections 10, 11 and 12, the sections 10 and 11 being pivotally connected to the ends of the section 12, a curved bridge part 14 fixedly connected to the free end of section 10 and slidably engaging in a tunnel in section 11, an arcuate resilient latch bar 19 concentrically spaced in relation to the bridge part and fixedly connected to section 10 and a catch element 23 within the tunnel and engageable by the latch bar when the free ends of the sections 10, 11 are close together. A projection 18 on the bridge part 14 coacts with the catch element 23 for limiting the opening apart of the arcuate end sections. In the closed position of the sections the nose 20 of the latch bar engages over the element 23 situated in an outer slot at the end of section 11. An end part 17 closes the inner surface of the tunnel which may alternatively be closed over its entire length. In an alternative embodiment in which both end sections 10 and 11 are hollow, the bridge part and latch bar are secured at one end by a rivet within one section and joined together by a pin at their other ends which slide within the other section, the latch bar having a number of grooves one of which a cross-bar selectively engages to vary the size of the ring. Alternatively the latch bar may rest between two spaced parallel members which comprise the bridge part.
