Abstract

931,819. Sorting solid materials. J. M. VAN DEN MUNCKHOF. May 17, 1961 [May 21, 1960], No. 17948/61. Class 117. Fruit or other articles, e.g. tomatoes, to be sorted according to size, are fed by a shoot 18 to near the hub of a rotary grader 3 driven about its vertical axis, and in the form of a wheel with spokes 4 between adjacent ones of which the articles fall at positions according to their size, and are received in various boxes 19. The grader is driven by a motor 6, and the articles are guided over the grader by a spiral-shaped stationary guide 13 which may comprise a number of strips 9-12, each of which may pivot about their one ends; an additional guide portion in the form of a concentric strip 8 is provided. A more exact sorting is provided by a stationary guide bar 22, Fig. 4, placed below the spokes and extending inwards of the spiral guide 13. The delivery end of the shoot has a threshold 20 which temporarily arrests the articles which are then fed forwards singly by a vertically reciprocated part 21, Fig. 3. The spokes 4 may extend spiral fashion from the hub to the wheel periphery.
