Abstract

930,002. Umbrellas. DESMO Ltd. Oct. 20, 1959 [Oct. 20, 1958], No. 33356/58. Class 134. An umbrella comprises a folding canopy mounted on a shaft 1, 2, the length of which is adjustable, and an attachment member 6 by which the umbrella may be removably secured to a table or other base, and means 5 between the attachment member and the shaft for tilting the canopy relative to the attachment member. As shown, the shaft comprises a wooden rod 1 slidably mounted in a metal tube 2, the bevelled upper end of which is screw-threaded and split longitudinally, the rod and tube being secured together by a nut 4 having an internal conical surface adapted to contract the split end of the tube upon the rod when the nut is tightened. The lower end of the tube 2 is connected by a pliable portion 5, comprising a rod 7 of malleable iron and a flexible close-coiled helical sleeve 8, to G-clamp 6 adapted to grip a table top or a circular-section rod or tube.
