Abstract

938,920. Fuel cells. VARTA A.G., and SIEMENS-SCHUCKERT-WERKE A.G. Oct. 25, 1961 [Nov. 2, 1960], No. 38248/61. Class 53. The anode and cathode of a fuel cell are separated by a separator incorporating a substance catalytically active to convert a fuel or oxidizing substance fed to an electrode, or an intermediate product of the reaction in the cell, to a substance inert to the counter-electrode. Suitable catalysts are silver, nickel, platinum and palladium or non-metallic substances such as carbon, casium oxide and pyrolusite. Specifications 907,351, 907,907, 909,459 and 914,553 are referred to.
