Abstract
A high voltage, above 600 volts, electric power cable has the metallic conductor insulated with a plasticized polyvinyl chloride composition having a specific inductive capacitance of 5 or less at 1,000 cycles. The plasticized polyvinyl chloride resin comprises polyvinyl chloride plasticized with from 2,5 to 125% by weight (based on the weight of polyvinyl chloride resin) of chlorinated polyethylene. Suitable polyvinyl chloride resins include homopolymers of vinyl chloride and copolymers thereof with vinyl acetate, and compounds made from such homo- and copolymers. The chlorine content of the chlorinated polyethylene may vary from 10 to 60% by weight. In the examples dibasic lead phosphate and dibasic lead stearate are also present in the compositions.
