Abstract

937,922. Delivering sheets. CUMMINSCHICAGO CORPORATION. Sept. 13, 1961 [Sept. 15, 1960], No. 32885/61. Class 100 (1). Documents 12 delivered from a business machine are fed in the direction indicated by the arrow A over support plates 10, 10a by rollers 25, 26, 25a, 26a and are deflected by means of switches 11, 11a into one of two or more receptacles R1, R2. The switches 11, 11a are solenoid-operated and are controlled by means described in Specification 929,384. The receptacles R1, R2 are identical. After being deflected by the switch 11 a document 12 passes between guides 14, 15 into the nip of a pair of feed rollers 18, 19 of which the roller 18 is longitudinally convex and the roller 19 is longitudinally concave. The rollers 18, 19 bow the document transversely so as to stiffen it. After passing between the rollers 18, 19 the leading edge of the document strikes a deflector 20 which bends the document and directs the leading edge into engagement with a receiving platform 54 at a point adjacent to a rotating stacking roller 21 which pulls the document downwards until its leading edge hits a stop 22. The platform 54 is carried by scissor-members 56, 57 pivoted to the machine frame at 5611, 57<SP>11</SP> and is biased to the right by a spring 59; as a stack of documents builds up on the platform the latter is moved to the left against its spring bias, the uppermost document of the stack being kept in a fixed position by means of an edge 114 of the deflector 20. The stop 22 is fixed to a bar 65, which is vertically movable by means of a rack 70 and pinion 69 to permit the stacking of different lengths of document, and intersects the platform 54 by means of comblike portions which engage slots in the platform.
