937,319. Detachable top lifts. E. M. G. HERREMANS, and F. LEIDGENS. Aug. 2, 1961 [Jan. 31, 1961], No. 28013/61. Class 17 (3). A heel for a lady's shoe comprises a body 2, a top lift 1 and means for detachably securing the top lift to the shoe, the means including a first element 11 having a tapered portion disposed in a tapered cavity 16 formed in the body to leave a space between the tapered portion and the cavity wall, a second element 14<SP>1</SP> attachable to the top lift and having a split sleeve 1411 disposed in said space, and means for biasing the first element so that the tapered portion presses the sleeve against the cavity wall to attach the top lift to the body. As shown, the biasing means is a spring 10. The cavity wall is formed by a tubular insert 13 which may be screwed to the body 2 or have longitudinal ribs fitting into corresponding grooves in the body 2. The insert, which may have a flange 17, has a bevel 13<SP>1</SP> to assist in the insertion of the sleeve 14<SP>11</SP>. To prevent the top lift 1 twisting a portion 1<SP>11</SP> may fit around the heel body and ribs may project from the insert 13 into the top lift. The body, which may be metal, wood or plastic, has a leather cover 9 and may be reinforced by a metal sleeve 18. The element 11 is pushed back against the spring to release the top lift, by an awl passing through a hole in the top lift and through the hollow element 14.
